As Chief Operating Officer at Mikkeller, Jacob Gram Alsing is not only responsible for the daily activities of the microbrewery, but also for promoting the Mikkeller brand to its increasingly global customer base. He has successfully accomplished this task in close cooperation with Founder and Owner Mikkel Borg Bjergsø; the company is widely acknowledged as one of the best microbreweries in the world and as a testament to this, Mikkeller has received several international awards. Drawing on his experience from a long career in the Royal Danish Army, Alsing believes that for leaders to succeed, they must be willing to take risks – something Mikkeller does through extensive investments in innovation efforts. By constantly rethinking its products, Mikkeller not only manages to stay ahead of consumer trends but also to create them.
Mikkeller was founded in Copenhagen in 2006. Today, the company exports micro-brewed beer to 50 different countries, and has a catalogue of more than 1,000 different beers. Mikkeller aims at changing how beer is perceived by consumers and challenging wine as the preferred complement to a gourmet meal. In just 10 years, Mikkeller’s sales have risen from 25,000 litres of beer in 2006 to more than 3.5 million litres in 2016.
